Dressing up as Cultures

With the passing of Halloween recently, there has been much talk about the appropriateness of the costumes some kids wear. Most of these complaints are surrounded over people wearing culturally insensitive costumes. The video My Culture is Not Your Costume was released so that more people can become aware of this issue.

This is apparently a very outstanding issue for most people, as it should. Halloween is a day to dress up as something scary or funny, and by dressing up as different cultures, it insinuates that these cultures are scary or funny. I believe that the stores selling these types of costumes, should cease doing so. If people can't buy these costumes they won't be able to dress up as different cultures. The actions of those who dress up as different cultures are racist, and unacceptable.

I have personally never seen a person dress up as a different culture, and don't believe that I ever would, because usually people just don't do that. Regardless if I have seen this happen before or not it is still and outstanding issue with Halloween.
