Reverse Psychology: To Vote or Not To Vote

Recently a PSA has hit the internet by storm. as the midterm elections are nearing in the US. This PSA has inspired many to vote, and has been a popular topic of conversation.

Upon watching this interesting PSA, I've come to notice that the driving factor of encouragement to vote in this campaign, is the utilization of reverse psychology. By getting old white people to say what laws have been passed by Trump and how they help the rich and that they don't care about school shootings and climate change as they're going to be dead soon anyways, and by getting these people to endorse him, they have told younger people not to vote, but it is evident that this message will only make it more appetizing to vote in the eyes of younger people, because this PSA really showcases the changes younger people can make to their country by voting.

This PSA has intriguing elements to it, as it efficiently showcases why younger people should vote and why it is important to vote. This PSA showcases that only few select people are benefited by the laws and tax cuts being passed, and it's due to the lack of younger people voting.

I think that this PSA has undoubtedly caused more and more young people to check their voter registration, and they now are going to make a sizeable impact on the 2018 midterm elections. A study recently released has indicated that voter turnout in this years congressional primaries was higher than in 2014.

Sure this may not have been the PSA but it is undoubtedly better than Hillary Clinton's Pokemon Go To The Polls.

  1. I wholeheartedly agree on how reverse phycology was a technique used in this advertisement. The older men, and women were talking about how the youth will never vote because they are whiners and that they will definitely be there. Voting Makes an Impact! Every election, whether it's a national, state, or local election, is important. It is equally important for parents to teach their children that voting is one of many ways they can make an impact in their community.

  2. I agree as well on the reverse psychology as a technique for the advertisement. Using this technique I believe was a much needed way to grab the viewers attention, as the elderly were whining about how the youth never votes and how whatever vote the elderly makes wouldn't matter, because they're going to be gone out of this earth soon. I believe this technique had influenced the younger audience it was going for, to vote.
